Out-Back Maxtrax & TRED Mount to suit Rear-Mounted Spare Tyres
Create a way to mount your Maxtrax or TRED Boards, Out-Back.
First, pick your mounting base: the Out-Back Spare Tyre Mount or Out-Back Spare Wheel Hub Mount. You can choose to run it centre, left, right or even above your spare tyre.
Then, bolt on Kaon's Out-Back Maxtrax/TRED mount. Adjust it up and down, in and out, or flip it around — it's totally up to you.
Features:
- The flexible Out-Back mounting system allows you to choose where you mount your boards, depending on your setup and vehicle.
- Multiple mounting holes and offset design provide maximum adjustability.
- You can choose from the Spare Tyre Mount, which allows you to still run a rear bin bag or factory reversing camera, or the Wheel Centre Hub Mounting, which bolts directly to the back, or simply purchase the Maxtrax Mount for another DIY use!
- Rear Spare mounting provides an accessible height, great for mobility issues or those without room on their roof.
- Lightweight but strong aluminium design provides a secure surface to mount.
- Compatible with 2 or 4 Maxtrax MKII Extreme or TRED GT, HD or Pro recovery boards.
- The base mounts are also multipurpose, with nearly unlimited uses, perfect for 10L water or fuel storage with a Rotopax Style holder.
- Powder coated in a durable textured matt black finish that will blend in with your tyre and won’t rust.

What vehicles is the Out-Back Mount compatible with?
The Out-Back mount compatibility is as follows. Please note that the Out-Back range is not compatible with factory spare wheel covers, such as those found on the Prado and Pajero.

What clearance is required for the Out-Back Mount to be used?
170mm of clearance is required from the edge of the tyre at the centre point, in order to mount the Out-Back Maxtrax Mount. This clearance needs to be maintained when the tyre is in all positions, i.e. when the door or rear bar is both closed and open. See the product listing images for more details.
Due to this clearance, the Out-Back Mount is not compatible with side mounting with some Barn-door models, as the pins either block entry to the passenger side door handle or cannot open fully without fouling on the driver's side taillight.
How many Maxtrax can the mount hold?
When used with the Maxtrax Pins, this mount gives you the ability to mount 2 or 4 Maxtrax MKII recovery boards.
Can I use two Out-Back Mounts simultaneousley?
Yes, two mounts can be used simultaneously, just be mindful of the mount spacing, as well as overall weight loading on both the rear door and the ratchet strap.
Which mounting pins are best for my setup?
There are different pin options depending on which recovery boards you have. Here's what we recommend:
MAXTRAX Recovery Tracks
- Maxtrax MK II Boards: Maxtrax 17mm pins
- Maxtrax Xtreme Boards: Maxtrax X-Series Pins
- 2 x Maxtrax MK II + 2 x Maxtrax Xtreme: Maxtrax Hybrid Pins
TRED Recovery Boards
- TRED PRO, GT or HD: Either TRED Threaded or Quick Release Pins
- TRED Pins are usually sold in sets of 2. We sell TRED Pins in sets of 4, to ensure optimum use with our mounts.
Please note our mounts are not compatible with the 'TRED originals' range of 800 and 1100 boards available before 2019.
